Anime has claimed its position as one of the best sources of entertainment that is suitable for people of all ages. Whether you're a 20-year-old well-grown adult or a 10-year-old kid. Anime is made for everyone.

It's because of the distinct genres, Japanese animation is never deemed as a source of entertainment for a specific age group.
Just think about a 10-year-old kid watching movies made by Makoto Shinkai. Will he be able to understand the concept of the film?

Absolutely no!

In this blog, I will compare two of the finest martial arts anime shows available on Netflix.

Parental advisory: THESE SHOWS ARE NOT MEANT FOR KIDS BELOW 15

But first:

What basic qualities made an anime based on martial arts good?

The first thing that I strive to notice in an anime that promotes martial arts is the exaggerated yet pragmatic fight sequences that suit the theme of the entire series assisted by raging music that makes the show more violent.
These are the basic ideas that play an essential role to turn the entire show into an enjoyable experience.

What if the creators add more blood and gore to the shows based on Martial arts?

That's when we get products like Baki and Kengan Ashura.

Let's differentiate these two mammoths that belong to the Netflix anime section.
Baki – Copyright. TMS Entertainment

Baki: originally called Baki the grappler this series revolves around Baki Hanma who turned into a fighter for achieving a strenuous objective i.e to defeat one of the devilish fighters in the entire series. It's none other than his own father Yuijiro Hanma.

Kengan Ashura: It's a fresh addition in ONA  (Original net animation) group that was released on Netflix back in 2019. The story revolves around the underground fights organized by wealthy corporates and entrepreneurs of Japan. But the prime focus of the entire story is on a ferocious fighter known as Tokita Ohma.

Comparison between the two.

Animation:

If we talk about animation Baki (2018) fails to fascinate the viewers, whereas Kengan Ashura turns out to be victorious in this field, just because of its 3D animation that made this series visually different than usual Japanese animated shows. The 3D outlook of Kengan Ashura made the series more humane and realistic compared to Baki, where the creators completely represented an underwhelming display of animation, just for the sake of making it gorier and deadlier in nature.

It is difficult to search for a fascinating story in an anime that is solely based on martial arts. Similarly, both these shows lack the usual storyline but the horrific violence and bloodshed are well maintained in various scenes that gave these shows a terrific exposure.
If you are expecting something like "story" from these monstrous shows than try to avoid it. These shows are well focused on fights rather than plot. It's all about violence.

Fight sequences:

Despite having the same theme, both the shows are different in terms of various aspects. Baki adheres to the concept of unrealistically exaggerated fights between humans that possess inhumane strength. On the contrary, Kengan Ashura sticks with an idea of representing a fight that is quite pragmatic and sensible compared to the latter. But these differences in fight excerpts don't matter much because both these shows will leave a lasting impression on your faces. The paramount reason behind the monstrous outlook of Baki is the over the top action sequences that turn out to be the impressive factor of the entire series.

Unfortunately, the above-mentioned shows are underrated in nature and didn't receive the recognition it deserved.

Baki didn't receive the limelight because the creators didn't invest much in this character. The minimal investment in this manga character resulted in a "not so big" fan base coz many of them showed their dissatisfaction by witnessing an underwhelming display of a monstrous fighting tale.

Switching back to Kengan Ashura, it will surely gain a humongous fan base within a few years just because of its realistic portrayal of fights assisted by a magnificent representation of 3D animation.
